This new sports and leisure facility for the community is located in the grounds of King Arthur’s Community School on the outskirts of Wincanton, in the south east of Somerset. The facilities include a large sports hall with barrel roof, small studio hall, fitness rooms, a four-lane 25m long swimming pool and associated changing and administration areas.

The swimming pool, plant room and service undercrofts are of an insitu reinforced concrete construction. The structure over the pool is curved glulam portals beneath a tongue and groove timber boarded roof. The structure for the sports hall, administration and studios is steel framed with masonry wall and large expanses of glazed curtain wall. The two mezzanine levels for plant, administration and café areas are of a composite floor construction. The leisure centre has been cut into the sloping school playing fields with the pool tank and foundation bases bearing onto the stiff clay strata.
