This £5 million project involved the major refurbishment of 129-130 Park Lane into luxury accommodation comprising of two maisonettes, three apartments and a penthouse. Built in the 1820s, these traditional townhouses were constructed using timber floors supported by brick walls. It was necessary to largely retain the existing layout. To improve its flexibility though, the timber floors and some masonry walls were replaced by a steel frame with a ‘slimfloor’ such that the new columns and floors could be contained within the existing floor and wall zones; sound insulation was also significantly improved as a result.
Usable areas were increased by raising the roof and lowering the basement and foundations strengthened with minipiling. The main stair was replaced with a new cantilever stone stair and an open stone tread helical stair added. Two new lift shafts replaced the original lift.
