For many years this brownfield site was occupied by a bus depot and bus station. In line with the trend of moving away from outof- town shopping, a major transformation has taken place with the construction of a 32,000ft ASDA store on this town centre location in Bridgwater . New roads and an access roundabout have been formed allowing for a new bus station and ticket office to be built alongside the store. All details were extensively reviewed by the local road authority and planners, particularly with regard to cycle and pedestrian routes.
The construction of the store consisted of two large span curved beams with a plant well in the roof space. Standing seam aluminium cladding together with large expanses of glazed walling produced an open and airy space. Back of store details included a covered yard, mezzanine floor providing additional storage, offices, canteen and other facilities in line with modern retail requirements. M&E fitout was by ASDA after handover.
